Rock N Roll Image of the Month (RRIM)
Interesting Individual of the Month (IIM)
Let’s start with a film related quote we dig:
“Without psychology, the horror film does not exist!”
Dario Argento
The Psycho Scale:
We use our Psycho Scale for film and TV series rating scores. Our Psycho Scale is 1-Psycho, with Psycho being the highest; 10. Mykal and I watch all scored films and TV series; drawing from decades of real viewing experience.
Film
There seems to be a theme here! Duh! I watched a shit-ton of films again this month! What can I say? I love movies! We consumed lots of movies, and enjoyed sharing some of our so-called favorite’s lists and scoring the films we watched. It’s why we are pursuing what we are! Writing treatments and scripts seems to come easy for us. We are moving to the next chapter, which will include making a short horror film. Mykal is working on two trailers for our two scripts. We finished our second script! We also continue to add to our treatment library! For the love of film! Psycho Studios will be successful! Cheers to that!
Horror Royalty: The Top 10 Directors Who Defined Fear - Redefined
From creeping dread to full-blown terror, these directors have reshaped the horror genre over the decades. Whether through blood-soaked slashers or slow-burning psychological nightmares, their films linger in our minds and nightmares long after the credits roll!
1. Alfred Hitchcock
· Notable Films: Psycho, The Birds, Rear Window
· Style: Master of psychological suspense, using tension, camera angles, and editing to create fear rather than gore. Hitchcock’s work focuses on the terror of the mind and everyday situations turning sinister.
2. John Carpenter

3. Wes Craven

· Style: Blends psychological horror with social commentary. Craven frequently plays with dreams vs. reality and meta-narratives, especially in Scream, which deconstructed horror tropes.
4. George A. Romero

8. Takashi Shimizu

· Style: Japanese horror director specializing in J-horror and the supernatural. Shimizu focuses on eerie atmospheres, curse-driven narratives, and ghostly presences rather than overt gore.
9. Robert Eggers
· Notable Films: The Witch, The Lighthouse, Nosferatu (2023)
· Style: Period-horror specialist who emphasizes historical authenticity, linguistic precision, and psychological dread. Eggers’ films create slow-burning tension with a strong focus on folklore and isolation.
10. Ari Aster
· Notable Films: Hereditary, Midsommar
· Style: Modern psychological and folk horror director. Aster combines meticulous visuals with family trauma, grief, and cult dynamics, creating deeply unsettling experiences that linger psychologically.
Which director keeps you up at night?
Here is a list of films we watched in August:
Films:
The Thing with Two Heads 1972 5 – This film is literally insane. Social commentary. Race relations. Football player. Classically trained actor! And two heads!
Batman Begins 2005 8.5 – One of our favorite films and part of one of the best trilogies! This is BATMAN!
Control Freak 2025 3 – This is a terrible film with a cool premise. A 3 might be too generous!
A Desert 2025 - 6 - Interesting. Small film. Well-acted, good story. The ending falls apart!
Jurassic Park Rebirth 2025 - 2 WTF? This big-time film is not my cup of tea! Poorly acted, terrible dialogue. Almost unwatchable! Stillborn more like it!
The Collector 2009 - 8 Incredible film. Pace. Tone. A very gory, fast paced horror film with plenty of the human condition.
Together (Mykal) 2025 - 3 Did not know how to end it. Poor pace. Poor dialogue. Mykal saw at theatre, and I at home. I echo his 3, a terrible movie with a cool premise! See more below.
Naked Gun (Mykal) 2025 - 7.5 Mykal really enjoyed this film at the theater, Liam is great in the titular role, it’s cool to laugh again at the cinema! Very funny PG13!
Clownhouse 1989 - 5 Scored for nostalgia. Never seen it before. Victor Salva wrote & directed, Jeepers Creepers writer and director as well. Poor acting, weak dialogue, campy horror fun.
Dream Lover 1993 - James Spader & Ms. Amick star in this classic early 90s film that feels like 1980s. A decent watch for some retro twist!
Evil Spawn 1987 – 2 This film is weird to the enth degree and the best part of it is the VHS tape style introduction.
Videodrome 1983 - 4 James Woods stars in this Cronenberg body horror film. It has its moments but is not as good as I remembered.
Butcher, Baker, Nightmare Maker 1981 – 3 This obscure 80s horror film is a solid watch for those that like B horror movies!
Humongous 1982 - 3. Dogs. Island. Poor acting. Loust script. Enough said.
Nightmare Beach 1989 - 3. Priest is slasher on motorcycle. Terrible acting. Repeat, a priest is the slasher killer and he rides a big motorcycle!
Wood Chipper Massacre 1988 - 1 unwatchable, the title is the only good part of the movie!
Together 2025 - maybe a 3! Fuck that movie. Repeated this as it was so bad. There is also a lawsuit against Franco and Brie as producers for stealing someone’s idea. Together!
Leprechaun the Beginning 2025 - 1 Holy shit Batman! The Leprechaun is tall. Sometimes his hands are human. His voice sucks. Acting horrible. This can’t be real, but it is!
BAIT 2025 - 1 Unwatchable. Forgettable. I’d rather go fishing! And I hate fishing!
Houseboat Massacre 2025 - 1 Ugh. Another terrible 2025 horror film! (Mickey Mouse?!)
God of Pain 2024 - 2 - terrible - I mean WTF? Wash. Rinse. Repeat.
The Borrower 1991 - 2. Weird. The poster and premise are cool; the movie itself is putrid.
All over the place. Weak.
Fantastic Voyage 1966 – 5 This sci-fi classic does not hold up well but it is interesting for nostalgia! Dr. Loomis is in it!
At the theatre – Weapons 2025 4. Long. Boring. 5. Mykal and I saw this opening night. We know it is killing it at the box office. It was flat and went nowhere for us! Regardless I really enjoyed going to the cinema to see it, late night shows are cool. Me: I can't call it a slow burn, like Midsommar, because it wasn't. It never really went anywhere. And then there is a witch!?
The witch did all that to live? A lot of people & critics liked it.
Missed creepy. Scary. Horror. To each his own.
Mykal: Had a lot of holes and a lot of unanswered questions. I give a 5; it wasn’t spooky or scary enough and I like witchcraft stuff but, didn’t captivate me enough.
Some TV
Here are some TV series we have recently watched and scored. We did not consume many TV series, which is more of the norm. Mykal takes in more TV than I. He’s an Apple TV+ guy!
Rick and Morty season 2025 - 8. We are coming up on the last episode of this latest season. At 22 minutes each, they go by really fast! The season has been an interesting mix for me, hot and cold. I feel the voice of Morty is irritating as opposed to cute like it was prior to the change with the voice actors. Mykal assures me that the voice and voices are better than I give them credit for. The episodes have missed a lot of the synergy between the five main characters and the cutting humor that is usually on display. Rick and Morty fans will still enjoy.
We look forward to the premiere of The Bear at the end of June! (2022) Season four is much anticipated! A uniquely different series that is about so much more than food. Yes Chef! See it on Hulu. We are waiting to watch this unique series together. I rewatched the first three seasons, it is uniquely very good! We are hopeful to watch this latest season in September!
Revisits:

Dexter: The Dark Vigilante of Miami 2006
Premiering in 2006, Dexter follows Dexter Morgan, a Miami blood-spatter analyst who leads a secret life as a vigilante serial killer, targeting criminals who have escaped justice. · Critical Acclaim: Praised for Michael C. Hall’s chilling performance and the show’s moral complexity.
· Cultural Impact: Pioneered anti-hero storytelling in modern television.
· Revival: Returned with Dexter: New Blood (2021), rekindling interest in the character and his dark world.
With a mix of tension, dark wit, and moral ambiguity, Dexter remains a standout in crime drama television.
Coming Soon: Pluribus
From Breaking Bad & Better Call Saul creator Vince Gilligan, Pluribus is a genre-bending sci-fi series premiering November 7, 2025 on Apple TV+.
Starring Rhea Seehorn (Better Call Saul), the story follows a woman tasked with saving the world from a mysterious happiness outbreak. Expect a surreal, unsettling tone with Gilligan’s signature mix of dark humor and human drama.
Already renewed for Season 2, Pluribus is shaping up to be one of the most talked-about shows of the year! We are really excited for some smart TV from one of our favorites, Gilligan! We loved Seehorn in Better Call Saul, she’s going to rock this role! E pluribus unum is Latin for Out of many, one. Will this translate to the new show? Time will tell.
Music
August was another odd month for me music-wise. There was some new music I dabbled in, but I stuck to my tried-and-true playlists. I was heavier on film than I was music. Mykal shared great tracks throughout the month! We had to change our Spotify family plan manager this month and it was an anxious time for me! Mykal completed the switch without a hitch! Thanks, Mykal!
Let’s take a look-see at August’s music:
Vintage
Chevelle point #1 1999. 11 tracks almost 43 minutes. 8 Where the hell was this album? Mykal discovers it and shares it with me on 7.27! Amazing for Chevelle and rock fans!

2004 12 tracks 41 minutes. 7
Love this group. Mykal shared and I had to listen to the entire album.

Vintage Snacks:
Def Leppard - Like their early stuff, through the album Hysteria!
The White Stripes – Such an eclectic two-person group, once again their early stuff resonates!
Retro Talk: Hard for me to believe that these bands are considered old, or vintage but indeed they are. Let’s explore two bands that we visit many times in a given month.
Megadeth – Listened to this as Mykal made a comparison between this lead singer and lead singer of RATT having a similar voice sound on some tracks. He’s right!
NIN EP Add Violence 2017 - 8
5 tracks Runtime just over 27 minutes. For NIN fans this is a must revisit, the EP kicks ass and ends too soon!
Mykal is awesome about sharing music, several times per week. As we were coming to the end of July, Bush and Incubus were shared among many others. Let’s share some details about each of those bands:
I know I’m this old man who never stopped loving rock music. We can’t be right or wrong about music, it’s what moves us!
Jane's Addiction: Pioneers of Alternative Rock. The Sprinkler Spotlight
Formed in Los Angeles in 1985, Jane's Addiction burst onto the music scene with a sound that fused rock, punk, metal, and psychedelic influences. Fronted by the charismatic Perry Farrell, with guitarist Dave Navarro, bassist Eric Avery, and drummer Stephen Perkins, the band became a defining voice in alternative rock.
Career Highlights:
· Breakthrough Albums: Nothing’s Shocking (1988) and Ritual de lo Habitual (1990) are hailed as landmark albums, featuring hits like Jane Says and Been Caught Stealing.
· Lollapalooza Legacy: Perry Farrell founded the iconic music festival in 1991, cementing the band’s influence beyond their own recordings.
· Hiatuses & Reunions: Despite several breaks and lineup changes, Jane’s Addiction has maintained a loyal fanbase, with successful tours and new releases over decades.
Fun Facts:
· The band’s name reportedly came from a friend named Jane who struggled with addiction, a theme that has influenced their music.
· Their eclectic style and theatrical live shows set the template for alternative rock performances in the late ’80s and ’90s.
With a blend of edgy lyrics, genre-bending sound, and unforgettable performances, Jane’s Addiction remains a cornerstone of rock history—continuously inspiring new generations of musicians and fans.
Reprised: Heavy Metal Origins: Black Sabbath & Ozzy Osbourne – The Sprinkler Spotlight
When you talk about the birth of heavy metal, one name towers above the rest: Black Sabbath. Formed in Birmingham, England, in 1968, the band, Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, and Bill Ward turned the rock world on its head with their dark, sludgy sound and occult-inspired lyrics. Their 1970 debut album Black Sabbath, followed by classics like Paranoid and Master of Reality, laid the blueprint for an entire genre.
At the center of it all was Ozzy Osbourne, whose eerie vocals and wild stage presence helped define Sabbath’s iconic sound. Ozzy’s departure in 1979 didn’t slow him down, in fact, it launched him into superstardom with a successful solo career (Blizzard of Ozz, anyone?) and later, reality TV fame with The Osbournes. His legacy is as much about music as it is about myth, from biting the head off a bat to becoming the Prince of Darkness. Mykal corrected me on this, as when I was younger reports stated this wasn’t true.
Today, both Black Sabbath and Ozzy are hailed as pioneers. Their influence echoes through decades of metal, hard rock, and beyond. Whether you're a die-hard fan or just exploring their legacy, their story is a loud, unapologetic reminder of how rebellion shaped modern music.
“We were heavy. We were loud. We were wild. And it worked.” Ozzy Osbourne RIP
Alice in Chains: Masters of Grunge and Dark Rock. The Sprinkler Spotlight
Formed in Seattle in 1987, Alice in Chains became one of the defining bands of the grunge movement, blending heavy metal riffs with haunting harmonies and introspective lyrics. Fronted by Layne Staley until his passing in 2002, and later joined by William DuVall, the band’s sound is dark, brooding, and unmistakably powerful.
Career Highlights:
· Breakthrough Albums: Facelift (1990), Dirt (1992), and Alice in Chains (1995) produced iconic tracks like Man in the Box, Rooster, and Would?
· Grammy Recognition: Nominated multiple times, their music continues to influence rock and metal artists worldwide.
· Resurgence: After a hiatus following Staley’s death, the band returned with critically acclaimed albums like Black Gives Way to Blue (2009) and Rainier Fog (2018).
Fun Facts:
· The band’s signature vocal harmonies between Staley and guitarist Jerry Cantrell set them apart in the grunge scene.
· Themes of addiction, loss, and resilience run deeply through their lyrics, resonating with fans across generations.
With a unique fusion of grunge grit and metal intensity, Alice in Chains remains a seminal force in rock music, proving that even in darkness, art can shine.
The Doors: Psychedelic Icons of the ’60s. The Sprinkler Spotlight
Formed in Los Angeles in 1965, The Doors became one of the most influential and enigmatic rock bands of the 1960s. Fronted by the charismatic and unpredictable Jim Morrison, with Ray Manzarek on keyboards, Robby Krieger on guitar, and John Densmore on drums, the band blended rock, blues, and psychedelia into a sound that was both dark and mesmerizing.
Career Highlights:
· Breakthrough Hits: Tracks like Light My Fire, Riders on the Storm, and Break on Through (To the Other Side) became defining anthems of the era.
· Influential Albums: The Doors (1967), Strange Days (1967), and L.A. Woman (1971) cemented their place in rock history.
· Cultural Impact: Known for Morrison’s poetic lyrics and magnetic stage presence, the band became symbols of counterculture and artistic rebellion.
Fun Facts:
· Jim Morrison was nicknamed The Lizard King, reflecting his fascination with mythology and mysticism.
· Despite Morrison’s untimely death in 1971 at age 27, The Doors’ music continues to inspire generations of artists and fans alike. RIP Jim.
With their hypnotic soundscapes, poetic lyrics, and boundary-pushing performances, The Doors remain timeless icons of rock and psychedelia. They are one of our favorites all time rock bands!
We are refraining from dropping anymore playlists. If you are ever in need of great play lists and you have Spotify, hit us up and we’ll be happy to share!
Rock N Roll baby! Mykal and we use Spotify Premium!
Rock and Roll Image of the Month! (RRIM)
Mac Miller
I shaped this moving picture from Balloonerism’s cover,
to show how not everything bursts outward
sometimes it folds inward, shrinking,
until we collapse quietly into ourselves,
spilling pieces on the ones we love most.
Tomorrow Will Never Know still unravels me.
Mac lives somewhere in my head,
in the quiet corners where his voice feels too heavy to hear.
He burned bright, even in the dark.
Thank you, Mac
for your honesty,
for the stories that still teach me to move,
even when I’m sinking.
Maybe it’s time I start swimming.

Mental Wellness Matters: Nurturing Your Mind Every Day
In our fast-paced world, mental wellness has become just as important as physical health. It’s about more than avoiding stress or anxiety—it’s about cultivating resilience, self-awareness, and a sense of balance in daily life.
Key Practices for Mental Wellness:
· Mindful Moments: Simple activities like meditation, journaling, or deep breathing can help center your thoughts and reduce stress.
· Movement & Exercise: Physical activity releases endorphins, which naturally boost mood and energy.
· Healthy Connections: Building supportive relationships and staying socially engaged strengthens emotional well-being.
· Rest & Recovery: Adequate sleep and downtime are essential for mental clarity and emotional stability.
· Professional Support: Seeking help from counselors, therapists, or support groups is a sign of strength, not weakness.
Remember, mental wellness is a journey not a destination. Small daily steps can create lasting habits that enhance your overall quality of life. Taking care of your mind is just as important as caring for your body, and every positive action counts. Mykal and I practice being cool to one another. It sounds simple because it is! Whether we are out in public, driving on the roadways, speaking to our neighbors or dealing with customer service at some level, let’s remember we all have a story. Saying hello, and treating each other as we want to be treated are simple things that can drive all of our mental health!
Tip: Try dedicating just 10 minutes a day to a calming ritual, whether it’s a short walk, listening to music, or mindful breathing. Over time, these moments add up to a healthier, happier you.
Grave Thoughts NEW
This is a new topic area for The Sprinkler. This will be stories of the morbid and macabre! This section will be gross and gory to go along with the theme of our favorite kind of movies; horror! There will be shares of old and new stories to include mysteries, murders and serial killers. What makes so-called humans’ prey on one another? People are fascinated by these topics, similar to the way many people slow down to observe a gruesome car accident.
Here are three more of the most notorious serial killers in U.S. history, based on their confirmed or suspected number of victims and overall impact:
Grave Thoughts Sprinkler Spotlight: John Wayne Gacy
The Killer Clown Who Terrified America
Who Was John Wayne Gacy?
John Wayne Gacy (1942–1994) was an American serial killer and sex offender, notorious for murdering at least 33 young men and boys between 1972 and 1978 in Chicago, Illinois.
The Killer Clown
Gacy earned his chilling nickname because he often performed at parties and charity events dressed as Pogo the Clown. Behind this cheerful persona lurked one of the most prolific killers in U.S. history.
The Crimes
Gacy lured his victims, often teenage boys and young men, by promising work, then assaulted and strangled them. Many of the bodies were found buried in the crawl space beneath his home.
Capture & Execution
Police arrested Gacy in December 1978 after linking him to multiple disappearances. In 1980, he was convicted of 33 murders and sentenced to death. He was executed by lethal injection in 1994.
Disturbing Facts
· Worked as a contractor and was active in local politics.
· Maintained a reputation as a community man despite his crimes.
· Created disturbing paintings of clowns while on death row, some of which sold for thousands.
Why It Still Haunts Us:
Gacy’s case shocked America, not just for the sheer number of victims, but for the contrast between his public image and his horrific crimes.
Grave Thoughts Sprinkler Spotlight: Jeffrey Dahmer
The Milwaukee Cannibal
Who Was Jeffrey Dahmer?
Jeffrey Dahmer (1960–1994) was an American serial killer and sex offender who murdered 17 young men and boys between 1978 and 1991. His crimes included dismemberment, necrophilia, and cannibalism, making him one of the most infamous killers in history.
The Crimes
Dahmer lured victims to his apartment with promises of money or companionship, then drugged and strangled them. Police later discovered grisly evidence: human remains, preserved skulls, and photographs documenting his acts.
Capture & Sentencing
He was arrested in 1991 after one intended victim escaped and flagged down police. Dahmer confessed in detail and was sentenced to 15 life terms in prison. In 1994, he was beaten to death by a fellow inmate.
Disturbing Facts
· Attempted to create zombie-like victims by drilling holes in their skulls.
· Claimed he killed out of loneliness and desire for control.
· His apartment was described as a house of horrors.
Why It Still Haunts Us:
Dahmer’s case raised questions about police negligence, psychological disorders, and how he evaded capture for so long. His story continues to fascinate and terrify true crime enthusiasts worldwide.
Grave Thoughts Sprinkler Spotlight: Richard Ramirez
The Night Stalker
Who Was Richard Ramirez?
Richard Ramirez (1960–2013) was an American serial killer, rapist, and burglar who terrorized California in the mid-1980s. Nicknamed The Night Stalker, he became infamous for his brutal and satanic-inspired crimes.
The Crimes
Between 1984 and 1985, Ramirez murdered at least 13 people and committed numerous assaults and burglaries. His attacks were marked by extreme violence, sexual assault, and symbols of Satanism, which he used to intimidate victims.
Capture & Conviction
Ramirez was captured in August 1985 after citizens recognized him from a police sketch and chased him down in East Los Angeles. In 1989, he was convicted of 13 murders, 5 attempted murders, 11 sexual assaults, and 14 burglaries.
Disturbing Facts
· Left pentagrams at crime scenes and told victims to swear to Satan.
· Became a media sensation during his trial for his defiant attitude and chilling grin.
· Received hundreds of fan letters while on death row, even marrying a woman in prison.
Why It Still Haunts Us:
Ramirez’s crimes struck fear across California, as victims ranged from children to the elderly. His case exposed the randomness of serial violence and the fascination with dark celebrity culture.
We will continue tales of past and present in our next Sprinkler, in our Grave Thoughts area. Stay safe everyone and lock your doors and leave a light on!
Peculiar Headlines
Let’s get to some weird and interesting stuff!
1. Gen Z’s latest obsession is coming out as graysexual. They are not gay, they are gray! A surprising number of people are choosing to identify as gray-sexual. This is defined as a gray area between allosexual and asexual. Those two terms come from experiencing regular sexual attraction to not experiencing any attraction. Whew. I am biting my bright pink tongue!
2. Officials issue warning about small pink blobs spreading across the state of Florida. These are eggs of one of the world’s worst invasive species, the exotic apple snail! The eggs are dangerous for humans to eat, and the snails wreak havoc on ecosystems. Escargot motherfuckers!?
3. More nature gone bad! Radioactive wasp nest discovered at nuclear waste storage site in South Carolina! Right out of a Stephen King novel; the wasp nest was discovered by government officials at a site that once produced nuclear weapons! The nest was found near an area that stored liquid waste. Get this, no wasps were found in the nest! Stoopid story!
4. A library book was returned to a library in San Antonio Texas almost 82 years after being borrowed! A note was included that read Grandma won’t be able to pay for it anymore. I’m not sure what the note meant. One of my first jobs was as a shelf reader at the new Oak Creek Library in the 1970s! That job, as boring as it was, still more interesting than this lame story! WTF?
5. Australian lawyer apologizes for AI-generated errors in murder case. A senior lawyer in Melbourne apologized to the judge for submitting his case with fake quotes and non-existent case judgments generated by artificial intelligence! This is only the beginning! John Grisham needs to do a sequel to The Firm. The AI edition!
6. A Michigan auto worker’s wallet was found under the hood of a car in Minnesota some ten years later and over 150,000 miles! Incredible! All the cash in the wallet was missing, but everything else was intact! There is a Ford commercial in this somewhere!
7. Rabbits with horns in Colorado are being called, wait for it: Frankenstein Bunnies! The gross looking furry creatures have horns coming out all over their heads, including their faces! Turns out the horns are caused by a funky virus! Night of the Lepus 2!
